Here's exactly what to expect — from your first call to walking out with a plan you actually understand.
Requesting an appointment isn't an instant online booking — tell our reception team what's going on, and they'll arrange the appropriate appointment for you.
Your First Visit
01
Tell Us What You Need
Let reception know whether you're after a routine new-patient visit or need help with an urgent concern — we'll help determine the right appointment.
02
Meet Your Dentist
A comprehensive exam of your teeth, oral tissues and overall oral health, with X-rays or photos taken as needed.
03
Meet Your Hygienist
For routine visits, your hygienist assesses your gum health and provides the appropriate hygiene care.
04
Review What We Found
Your dentist takes the time to explain what was found and answer your questions, so you understand your oral health.
05
Discuss Your Options
If treatment is recommended, we'll go through the options. More complex cases can get a separate consultation to dig in further.
06
Decide on Next Steps
Once you understand your options, reception helps arrange any treatment and reviews fees, insurance coverage and estimated out-of-pocket costs.
A note on order: for a routine new-patient visit, your first appointment may begin with either the dentist or the hygienist, depending on scheduling.
Adult New Patients
Routine New-Patient Visit
No rush, just getting established.
We book both a hygiene appointment (about 1 hour 20 minutes) and a dental exam (about 40 minutes). If you're over 18 and haven't had a panoramic X-ray in the past five years, we'll generally take one to get a full view of your teeth, jaw bones and surrounding structures.
If you have recent X-rays from another office, let us know — with your permission, we'll try to get them first rather than retake images unnecessarily.
Urgent or Emergency Concern
Something's wrong right now.
Tell us when you call that you're a new patient with an urgent concern, and we'll book you with the dentist at the next available opening. Our priority is figuring out what's going on and providing relief where we can.
If the problem needs more involved treatment or a specialist, we'll explain the next steps — and once it's resolved, you're welcome to continue with us as a regular patient.
Children & First Dental Visits
Young Children
No pressure, just getting familiar.
For toddlers and young children, we typically book about 30 minutes with the dentist — with no expectation that they'll sit still for a full exam. We work at their pace; sometimes a first visit is simply getting comfortable in the chair and having a positive experience.
Older Children
Adult-like, adjusted for age.
Older children generally have a hygiene appointment similar to an adult visit, followed by an exam — adjusted to their individual needs. Sometimes the dentist examines them right in the hygiene room with their hygienist present.
A parent or legal guardian should come to every children's appointment — you'll need to consent to X-rays or certain procedures, and help with forms and payment.
Forms & What to Bring
New-patient forms cover your contact information, consent, and medical and dental history. We typically send these forms in advance for you to complete before your appointment. If you need to fill them out in the office, please arrive 15 minutes early to allow enough time.
Photo ID
Dental insurance information, if applicable
A list of current medications
Insurance & Fees
We electronically submit and direct bill dental insurance on your behalf, and do our best to help you understand what your plan covers. That said, dental insurance is an agreement between you and your insurer — coverage varies by plan, and you're ultimately responsible for understanding your own coverage, limitations and exclusions. Payment for your portion is due at the time of service.
How we keep this simple: chairside, we focus on what we found, what it means, and your treatment options — nothing else. Once you've had a chance to understand your options, our reception team separately reviews the fees, your estimated insurance coverage, and expected out-of-pocket costs before any treatment begins.
Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
If you have questions about using your CDCP coverage at our office, please contact our reception team — we're happy to discuss your coverage and our current arrangements.
A Couple of Things
Not sure what type of appointment you need?
That's okay. Just tell our reception team what's going on and we'll help determine the appropriate appointment.
Nervous about dental treatment?
Let us know — especially if it's been a while. We're happy to take things at a pace you're comfortable with and answer any questions along the way.
