Brightsmile Delta Dental Centre ("Brightsmile," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website and in the course of providing dental care, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights you have.
This policy is written to reflect general privacy principles under Canadian law, including the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of British Columbia and, where applicable, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). It is a general-purpose draft and has not been reviewed by a lawyer — see the note at the end of this page.
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
~ Contact details you provide through our website forms or by phone/email — name, phone number, email address, and the content of any message you send us.
~ Appointment information — requested appointment times, reason for visit, and new-patient status.
~ Patient and health information collected in office as part of providing dental care (see Section 3).
~ Website usage information collected automatically, such as pages visited and general location/device information, via analytics tools (see Section 6).
As a dental practice, we collect and maintain clinical records for our patients, including medical and dental history, treatment notes, X-rays, and insurance details. This information is considered sensitive personal health information and is handled with additional care, in line with our professional and regulatory obligations as a licensed dental practice in British Columbia.
Health information collected in office is kept separately from general website inquiries and is accessed only by staff directly involved in your care or the administration of your file.
We use the information we collect to:
~ Respond to inquiries and schedule appointments;
~ Provide and coordinate your dental care;
~ Process insurance claims and billing, where applicable;
~ Send appointment reminders and practice-related communications;
~ Maintain accurate clinical and administrative records as required by law and professional standards;
~ Improve our website and services.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it only with:
~ Dental specialists or laboratories directly involved in your treatment, with your knowledge;
~ Insurance providers, for the purpose of processing your claims;
~ Service providers who support our operations (such as our website host or appointment-booking software), bound by confidentiality obligations;
~ Regulatory bodies or authorities where required by law.
Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to understand how visitors use the site and to improve its performance. This may include aggregated, non-identifying analytics data. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect some website functionality.
We take reasonable administrative, technical and physical measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse, both on our website and in our office systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain clinical records for the period required by British Columbia dental regulatory standards and applicable law. Website inquiry information not connected to a patient file is retained only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry, unless you become a patient.
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information, or ask questions about how your information is used. To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 12.
We provide dental care to children as patients, with information collected from and about them provided by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through our website without parental involvement.
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
